Breeding: This fish has the typical barb shape and a laterally compressed body. The Stripped Barb has two pairs of barbels. It's back is greenish with a few irregular black markings, the flanks are red, with a violet sheen that becomes paler ventrically so that the belly is almost white. The dorsal and anal fins are red or sometimes a pale etation. The eggs must be protected immediately or they will be eaten. The fry will become free swimming in a few days and can be fed on rotifers and small nauplii.
Diet: Worms, crustaceans, insects, plant matter, dried food.
Behavior: The stripped barb is a peaceful fish which will make a lively addition to any aquarium. However for breeding purposes they are best removed to a separate tank and returned immediately to the community tank apter spawning.
Comments: Ideal tank coditions are a soft substrate with plants to the rear to leave plenty of free swimming space for these lively fish.
