Good Biginner Fish: Yes.
Breeding: They lay their eggs in plant thickets, plants such as java moss work well. The eggs will hatch within 24 hours of being laid, fry are free swimming within 3 days. Feed the fry newly hatched brine shrimp for the first few weeks. There are usually 150-250 eggs each spawning. Be sure to remove the parents after they spawn.
Diet: Omnivorous. Small aquatic invertebrates, live or frozen; also flake foods and vegetable matter.
Behavior: Tiger barbs are know to nip the fins of other fish. Keep them in schools of eight or more for them to create a "pecking order." The more that you keep in a school the less likely they will pick on other fish. Do not keep with any other fish that have long flowing fins.
Comments: A very popular fish in the aquarium hobby. There are many other color variation for tiger barbs, including green, red, and albino.
