Good Biginner Fish:
Breeding: Feed each pair well and provide them with a suitable anemone. When ready to spawn, the pair will clean a rock or shell close to the base of the anemone and deposit their eggs on the cleaned surface. The orange/yellow eggs are fiercely guarded by the male until they hatch in some 7-10 days. Good water quality is essential when breeding.
Diet: Omnivorous. Most small meaty foods, including finely chopped fish, shrimp, mussels or other shellfish; will generally also take flake foods, especially if fish are tank-bred.
Behavior: Among the easiest marine fish to maintain, feed, and breed, the Common Clownfish is ideal for keeping with invertebrates. Both wild and tank-bred specimens are sold. If an anemone is provided they usually do not leave the area of the anemone. They are very territorial by nature and should be kept by themselves, or in mated pairs.
Comments: Most clowns are known as anemone fish as they have a special symbiotic relationship with certain reef inverts known as anemone. One does not necessarily need the other to survive, but it is an interesting relationship to hobbyists. This is one of the most common fish sold in the aquarium hobby. Since this fish is easily bred, tank raised and wild caught varieties are often seen in stores. It is very important to have good water quality for long-term success. Because these clowns are very susceptible to white spot and other parasites. If an anemone cannot be provided; they will need a place to hide. Provide rocks or caves for them to hide. Whenever possibly buy the tank raised clowns. Not only are tank raised fish much hardier and easier to care for, you are not depleting the natural population.
